         HARDY WATERLILIES (Nymphaea)

WHEN PLANTING IN POTS & BOWLS

Fill your pot using good garden soil (topsoil) , DO NOT USE POTTING MIX.
Your waterlily requires the soil to be at least 3-4 inches deep in your pot or bowl
The Wider the bowl or pot, The more soil it will contain for your plant to spread & the better the plant will grow and flower.
Push your Water lily firmly into the soil wth the growing tip just poking out.
Fill your pot or bowl with water or sink it in your pond to around 15cm above the growing tip.
Once your plant develops substantial leaf growth the depth can be increased up to 50cm.

Water lilies are perennial plants that shoot in spring, and then flower
during late spring - summer & autumn before going dormant in winter.
Waterlilies need at least 4 hours a day of direct sunlight to flower (the more Sun the Better)
Repotting  your water lily into fresh soil or a larger pot or bowl every 1-2 years is recommended.

WHEN PLANTING IN DAMS & LAKES

When deciding a position for your new plant, make sure it has plenty of sunshine.
Place your Waterlily in 30-60cm of water on the edge of the dam or lake away from flowing water.
Push your Water lily firmly into the base of the dam and compact a bit of mud from dam around the plant.
Place protective chicken wire around plant until it becomes established (12months) to protect it from water birds, yabbies & crayfish.

TROPICAL WATERLILIES

Growing instructions are the same as hardy waterlilies with a few extra things to note.
Tropical lilies in temperate climates have a 25% mortality rate when planted in Dams.
Make sure you place or plant your tropical lily in a position that receives full sun ALL DAY LONG.
During winter move any lilies planted in bowls or pots under cover. (Frost will kill them)
If ducks and water birds are a problem in your area protect corms (dormant Plant) using chicken wire or some similar barrier.

LOTUS  (Nelumbo Nucifera)
